A self introduction is always hard to write. Especially when you're new.
I'm a professional photographer. I'm also an experienced web developer. I knew when I returned to the freelance world, I wanted to be able to combine the two into a unique package for cients who would really benefit. As I looked around at what was happening with the economy and evaluating industries, it became clear to me, the hospitality industry can potentially be on the cutting edge of internet technology, but so many of these small businesses are quickly falling behind technologically.
For two years, I worked as Governor Schwarzenegger's official photographer. The job required a lot of travel, and since California is a rather large state, it frequently meant I had to stay overnight. Sure, I racked up a lot of points at the major hotel chains, but the more I travelled, the more I found myself gravitating toward the smaller places. It's hard to find a B&B in downtown LA, but when we travelled to Eureka, Palm Springs and other parts away from the big city, I often looked for a smaller inn or B&B. By and large, I found the online presence of these small businesses to be somewhat lacking in taking advantage of what's available.
As I got to thinking about this, I started to formulate a plan to help these businesses. Everything I have read over the last few months has underlined a few principles I discovered in my own travels. More often than not, the inns with modern, professionally designed websites will get the bookings over local competitors without.
So, what's this blog about? It's a resource for innkeepers when it comes to online marketing. We'll talk about trends, technology, new ideas and industry news. I hope this blog becomes a place where innkeepers can come for all these things.
All the best,
Bill Foster
